Indonesia Tsunami on Sep 28, 2018
Palu is a city with 350,000 inhabitants, located at the end of a long, narrow bay on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. It appears that the earthquake was generated by sideways movement along the Palu-Koro strike-slip fault. It is unusual that such an earthquake can trigger a tsunami.
A five to ten feet high tsunami hit the city of Palu following a 7.5 magnitude earthquake. More than 70,000 homes were destroyed or damaged that struck on September 28, launching waves as high as six metres that slammed into Sulawesi at 800 km/h. More than 2,500 people were injured and almost 75,000 displaced.
Massive earthquake and tsunami struck Sulawesi Island killed at least 1,948 people, according to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management.
